International Association of Certified Protective Operations Managers
History
In 2003, instructors from several protective operations programs from Central Ohio began to discuss the need for a means to recognize the training, education and experience of their graduates. Most protection schools had been offering their own certification, but a place for a universal certification in the protection profession became obvious. With that in mind, they opened the doors to graduates of a variety of public and private sector programs to participate in an examination and review process. During this period, there were less than 25 CPOM’s awarded to individuals who had met a training goal of at least 100 hours, and had been practicing the art for at least two years.
In October 2009, this concept began to take root when a number of professionals began to recognize the need for a global standard and began discussions on several executive security-related groups on LinkedIn. You are now re-inventing this certification and are a part of its history.
